36 people who have been already punished for blocking the road at the border crossing point Bruzgi in order to protest against the fuel export restrictions are called to court again. The trial will take place on 20 July.

On 15 July a search was conducted at the apartment of Yauhen Kanstantsinau. The official reason was that the police had been allegedly informed that he was selling moonshine. They confiscated some leaflets from him. On 18 July two provocateurs (Makaranka and Silitski) attacked the activist, after which he was detained by the police. He was charged under Article 17.1, “disorderly conduct”.

Though it seems absurd, the private socio-political weekly Nasha Niva received another official warning just before the beginning of the trial on its dissolution.

Uladzimir Shulzhytski, a youth activist from Smarhon, was detained at the silent protest action on 6 July in Maladechna. The following day he was released from jail because of the absence of witnesses of his “misdemeanor”.

Policemen with machine guns transported the well-known human rights activist to a deserted district of Minsk.

08.07.2011 Minsk City Court leaves verdicts to anarchists unchanged

On 8 July the Minsk City Court considered cassation appeals against verdicts to the activists of the anarchist movement Ihar Alinevich, Miklaia Dziadok and Aliaksandr Frantskevich who had been sentenced to different times of imprisonment for a number of political actions including arsons. Two more convicts, Silivonchyk and Vetkin, didn’t file cassation appeals. Bear in mind that in May 2011 they had pleaded guilty and had given testimonies against Alinevich, Dziadok and Frantskevich who plead innocent.

Eight people and a dog were detained on the central square of the town of Vialeika on 6 July. The detentions were conducted by the riot police to prevent the silent protest action which was to have taken place there.

08.07.2011 Orsha: foreign travel restrictions imposed on Siarhei Huminski

Siarhei Huminski, a civil activist from the town of Orsha, studies at one of the Polish universities. At present he is passing his exams there. The Orsha Town Military Enlistment Office sent him a paper, according to which he is banned to travel abroad. The official reason is that he hadn’t allegedly passed all necessary documents to the military enlistment office. Siarhei Huminski says it’s not true.

Mr. Khamaida was detained near the so-called “blue house” – he usually distributes the independent press there. Radio Liberty informs that he has been brought to Railway District Department of the Interior according to a police order.
