The College of Justice Ministry of Belarus has approved the decision to terminate the license to lawyer T. Sidarenka.

A number of famous public figures and human rights activists signed personal guarantees for the arrested Chair of the Human Rights Center Viasna Ales Bialiatski. All in all, 54 such papers were passed by them.
31.08.2011 Ihar Sluchak sentenced to 3 days of arrest
On 30 August Judge of the Savetski District Court of Homel Shaustruk found Ihar Sluchak, a member of the United Civil Party, guilty of using obscene language in public (Article 17.1 of the Code of Administrative Offenses). He was sentenced to 3 days of arrest (which he served awaiting the trial) and was released from custody right in the court hall.

On August 04, 2011, prominent human rights activist and President of the Human Rights Centre, Viasna, Mr. Ales Belyatski was arrested by police of the Department of Financial Investigation of the Committee of State Control.

His fiancée Nasta Palazhanka told about the results of his meeting with his lawyer on 24 August. Before this, the prison administration five times refused to allow Zmitser meet with the lawyer.

30.08.2011 30 August – International Day of the Disappeared
The International Day of the Disappeared is an annual commemoration day created to draw attention to the fate of individuals imprisoned at places and under poor conditions unknown to their relatives and/or legal representatives. The impulse for the day came from the Latin American Federation of Associations for Relatives of Detained-Disappeared (Federación Latinoamericana de Asociaciones de Familiares de Detenidos-Desaparecidos, or FEDEFAM), an NGO founded in 1981 in Costa Rica as an association of local and regional groups actively working against secret imprisonment and forced disappearances in a number of Latin-American countries.
