04.04.2012 "Young Front" addresses MPs concerning death penalty moratorium
Civil organization "Young Front", officially registered in the Czech Republic, addressed all members of the Chamber of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus with the demand to initiate a voting on introducing a death penalty moratorium in Belarus.
04.04.2012 Deputy head of Supreme Court doesn't doubt Ihar Sluchak is a hooligan
The initiator of the civil campaign "Office work in Belarusian" Ihar Sluchak (in the photo) received an answer from the Supreme Court of Belarus, signed by the first deputy head, Aliaksandr Fedartsou (the officer who had issued the death verdicts to Dzmitry Kanavalau and Uladzislau Kavaliou).
04.04.2012 Metamorphoses in the case of "petty hooligan" Sviatlana Viarheichyk
Police beat pensioner Sviatlana Viarheichyk during detention more than 8 months ago. Since that time she has been keeping correspondence with the law machinery, trying to restore justice and draw to legal account the officers of the Kastrychnitski District Police Department of Minsk who had inflicted bodily injuries to her.
04.04.2012 Hrodna: trial for "refusal from dactylography" held behind closed doors
The hearings on the administrative case of Uladzimir Fianenka, charged with "refusal from dactylography", started behind the closed doors in the Leninski District Court of Hrodna. The matter is that the police charged the man in absentia — he found about their report only when he was summonsed to the court. Mr. Fianenka asked to postpone the hearings, but the judge rejected his motion.

On 30 March 2012, human rights defender Mr Valery Shchukin was condemned to an administrative fine in relation to a protest held on the previous day against the trial of political activists which was about to take place behind closed doors in Orsha.

03.04.2012 Hrodna police drew up false report
An administrative case for refusal to be fingerprinted was brought against Hrodna resident Uladzimir Fianenka. Mr. Fianenka will be tried at the Leninski District Court of Hrodna on 4 April.
03.04.2012 Head of Vitsebsk Region Court is asked to change restraint to Siarhei Kavalenka
Civil activists of Vitsebsk filed a collective appeal to the head of the regional court, Mikalai Khalimonchyk. Political prisoner Siarhei Kavalenka has been keeping a long-term hunger-strike. He is currently receiving rehabilitation treatment at the psychiatric department of penal colony #3.
03.04.2012 Vitsebsk: Aliaksandr Kirylau not allowed to hold picket
Aliaksandr Kirylau, an activist of unregistered Belarusian Conservative Party "Belaya Rus", visited Vitsebsk City Executive Committee in order to file an application for picketing. However, the head of the citizens' applications department refused to explain how such applications are to be filled.

Workers of all districts of Homel region "fruitfully" work at days of unpaid work, subbotniks. The administration of Vetka District Executive Committee, dissatisfied with the results of a subbotnik, ordered the workers to spend another Saturday working without money.

Some days ago I was in springtime Oslo. The conference was dedicated to the situation in Belarus and it was organised by the Norwegian Helsinki Committee in cooperation with the Norwegian PEN Club. At the dinner, one of the hosts had tears in her eyes. Why? The lady said that nothing at all would change, people were suffering. And not only in Belarus. I could not comfort her in any other way but by saying that history is full of indescribable horrors. World War II, deportations, suffering and death in GULAG. Fortunately the horrors of today are not on that scale.
02.04.2012 General procuracy evades from reacting to appeal of blacklisted human rights activist
The General Procuracy forwarded the appeal of the deputy head of the Human Rights Center "Viasna" Valiantsin Stefanovich concerning unlawful foreign travel restrictions to the Ministry of Defense. The human rights defender was informed about it by a letter on 28 March.
02.04.2012 Baranavichy: attempt to protect right to fair election
Baranavichy-based entrepreneur and civil activist Mikalai Charnavus applied to the Baranavichy City Court with a request to find unlawful the re-election of the Council of the central market of Baranavichy. The matter is that the re-election wasn't conducted by the general assembly of the entrepreneurs, but by the administration of the market.
