12.03.2012 Aliaksandr Kruty to be tried again on 19 March
Aliaksandr Kruty, the father of a victim of the 11 April blast in the Minsk metro, actively participated in the trial of the alleged perpetrators of the terrorist act, Dzmitry Kanavalau and Uladzislau Kavaliou, the both of whom were sentenced to death and are waiting to be executed.
12.03.2012 Another lawyer of political prisoner Andrei Sannikau gets disbarred
last week the presidium of the Minsk municipal panel of lawyers disbarred Andrei Varvashevich. This is Sannikau’s second lawyer to be disbarred. Previously, lawyer Pavel Sapelka was disbarred.

"Young Front" activists detained in Minsk three days ago were tried at the Leninski District Court of Minsk. RFE/RL learned this from "Young Front" deputy head Anastasiya Palazhanka.

One of the event's initiators Viktar Ivashkevich has informed "Euroradio" that the officials are supposed to send their reply to the application which was filed on 23 February no later than on 20 March – 5 days before the event.

The Belarusian authorities disagree with the registration of 56 individual communications of Belarusian citizens at the UN Human Rights Committee.
09.03.2012 Police interfere with action of “Our Alternative” in Homel
At 12 a.m. activists of the civil initiative “Our Alternative” held an action within the framework of the campaign “Stop Drinking – Start Living!”. Zmitser Karashkou, Vasil Takarenka, Andrei Tsianiuta and Kastus Zhukouski handed out anti-alcoholic postcards near the central supermarket of Homel, congratulating passers-by on the International Women’s Day.
09.03.2012 Pinsk authorities ban literary event
Members of the Ukrainian scientific and pedagogical fellowship "Berehynya", officially registered in Belarus, intended to hold a literary event in the village of Misiatsichy in Pinsk district of Homel region, dedicated to the 100-year anniversary of the birthday of the Ukrainian writer Fedor Odrach, born in this region. Ukrainian scientists who study the writer's work, were to come to the event.
09.03.2012 Barysau: detention of Anatol Askerka and Ivan Shutko
At about 11 a.m. on 9 March police officers came to Anatol Askerka's home and took him away to the Barysau District Police Bureau. He managed to phone to human rights defender Aleh Matskevich and tell him about it.
09.03.2012 Detention of "European Belarus" activist
Alena Lazarchuk, an activist of the civil movement "European Belarus", was detained at the metro station "Spartyunaya" in the morning of 8 March, while posting portraits of political prisoner Andrei Sannikau who celebrated his 58th birthday that day. She was guarded to the Frunzenski District Police Bureau and charged with violation of Article 21.14 of the Code of Administrative Offenses (violation of urban maintenance rules).

Zinaida Mikhniuk, the head of Brest regional branch of the Trade Union of Radio Electronic Industry, wasn't allowed to hold a picket of solidarity with Aleh Stakhayevich, the head of an independent trade-union branch at the "Granite" enterprise in Mikashevichy who was fired for his trade-union activities.

On 7 March the leader of the United Civil Party (UCP), Anatol Liabedzka, was told on the Belarusian-Lithuanian border he was not permitted to visit the EU.
