On 27 February the family of Siarhei Kavalenka informed the Special Rapporteur of the UN Human Rights Council about the situation of the political prisoner who continues a hunger strike of protest after receiving a prison sentence on 24 February. The document was prepared with the help of Vitebsk human rights defenders.

Several days ago the head of the Orsha District Police Bureau Leanid Mikhailau gave an interview to the state-owned "Arshanskaya Hazeta", dated to the Police Day. He enumerated the achievements of the local police, including the struggle against dipsomania, and told how such struggle was conducted.

On 5 March Homel oppositionist Uladzimir Katsora filed an individual communication with the UN Human Rights Committee. The activist is of the opinion that the Belarusian authorities who were represented by the police officers who detained him and fined for the organization of a People's Assembly, violated Articles 19 and 21 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights – the right to disseminate information and freedom of peaceful assemblies.

Liavontsi Chapurnykh, a member of the Belarusian Leftist Party "Fair World", filed an individual communication with the UN Human Rights Committee. He asks the committee to consider the 5-day arrest to which he was sentenced for the distribution of invitations to a People's Assembly, as a violation of his rights.

Pavel Vinahradau, activist of the civil campaign "Tell the Truth!" was to have been released from jail on 2 March, after serving 10-day arrest for participation in an "unauthorized picket of toys" on Nezalezhnasts Square in Minsk.
05.03.2012 Aliaksandr Artsybashau gets 7 more days of arrest instead of release from jail
Aliaksandr Artsybashau, activist of the civil campaign "Tell the Truth!", was detained near the Maskouski District Court of Minsk on 22 February and sentenced to 10 days of arrest for participation in the "unauthorized picket of toys" on Nezalezhnasts Square in Minsk.
05.03.2012 Political prisoner Statkevich receives censorship notes instead of letters
As said by Leanid Haravy, an activist of the Movement "For Freedom" who maintains correspondence with political prisoners, he received a postcard from Mikalai Statkevich in which it was written that he hadn't received the previous letter – just its envelope, with the attached note "The letter didn't pass censorship".
05.03.2012 Dziarzhynsk: fines for solidarity with Bialiatski
The activists of the "European Belarus" Uladzimir Dzenisevich and Aliaksandr Tarnahurski were sentenced to pay 700,000 rubles and 350,000 rubles fines for violating part 2 of Article 21.14 of the Code of Administrative Offenses.
