Zinaida Mikhniuk, the head of Brest regional branch of
the Trade Union of Radio Electronic Industry, wasn't allowed to hold a picket
of solidarity with Aleh Stakhayevich, the head of an independent trade-union
branch at the "Granite" enterprise in Mikashevichy who was fired for
his trade-union activities.
Zinaida Mikhniuk intended to hold the picket on 7 March in the park of Veterans
of of War in Afghanistan, the place which was determined for pickets by the
Brest City Executive Committee. The reason for the ban is standard - the
failure of the applicant to conclude paid service agreements with medics,
police and public utilities. This is the logic of the authorities – a citizen
must pay for each and every right.
