Activists of For Freedom movement Yury Bakur and Andrei Sharenda have been detained in Brest. They hanged out a white-red-white flag on the building of Brest State pedagogical University, to mark the Human Rights Day. The huge white-red-white flag was attached to the flagpole of the Brest State pedagogical University.

On 9 December young activists handed for free the issues of the officially registered newspaper Narodnaya Volia for the last two months in Pushkinskaya Street in Brest. In such a way they tried to encourage people to buy the newspaper to buy the newspaper after its return to the newsstands.

On 9 December at a mini-market in Brest the police detained Valiantsin Lazarenka and Zinaida Mikhniuk, activists of the local independent trade unions. They handed out invitations to the authorized meeting scheduled for 10 December.
09.12.2008 Alexander Barazenka is sentenced to one year of personal restraint
The hearings on the criminal case against Alexander Barazenka at Tsentralny district court came to an end. Procurator Tsikhavets demanded that the accused was sentenced to 18 months of personal restraint without direction to an open prison. Alexander Barazenka did not take the blame.

Opposition activists flied a flag near the court of Tsentralny district of Minsk. Hearings in the case of political prisoner Alexander Barazenka are taking place today. Rallies of solidarity with the prisoner of conscience are held in front of the building of the court for the second day. Oppositionists are holding a streamer ‘Freedom to Barazenka!’, shouting ‘Freedom to political prisoners!’, ‘Long live Belarus!’

08.12.2008 Trial over Barazenka: policemen beat youth leader Andrei Kim
Policemen in mufti beat the youth leader Andrei Kim near Tsentralny district court of Minsk, where the political prisoner Alexander Barazenka was tried. Kim was beaten when Barazenka was being taken out of the court and the people who came to support him started chanting ‘Freedom!’ and ‘Long Live Belarus!’ Three policemen in mufti assaulted him.

The leader of the United Civil Party Anatol Liabedzka received from the Ministry of Dues and Taxes the demand for ‘giving explanations’ within 30 days. According to this document, he must give written explanations about the financial sources from which he covered his expenses, including the dates, the way he received the money and the received sums. The demand is signed by the deputy head of the tax inspection, the head of the small business control department Dzmitry Saladukhin.

Liudmila Salash, mother of the leader of Barysau organization of the BPF Party Siarhei Salash received a letter from the organized crime department of Barysau district executive committee a letter informing about instigation of a criminal case against the official of the local branch of the State Control Committee Auramenka and an entrepreneur Rybkin, after an anti-corruption letter, allegedly signed by her, the editor of the independent newspaper Borisovskiye Novosti Anatol Bukas and five more citizens, had been received by the executive committee.
