Judge of Haradok the district court found Leanid Autukhou guilty of organizing an unauthorized action and fined him 1.4 million rubles (about $487).

The activist can face a criminal case for membership in an unauthorized organization. Recently he has been issued a warning for it. As RFE/RL reports, he was also summoned to the prosecutor’s office for giving evidence.
12.08.2009 Chyhunachny district court of Vitebsk fined ‘Young Front’ activist Taras Surhan for white-red-white flag
The youth activist was arrested for an attempt to hang out a national white-red-white flag on the bridge above the Western Dvina River on Solidarity Day, 16 July. As RFE/RL reports, Taras Surhan was fined 175 000 Belarusian rubles (about $62).

On 10 August in Brest members of Young Front held an action for the abolition of death penalty in Belarus. The activists held out leaflets of Amnesty International in Savetskaya Street in the center of the city.

Siarhei Salash, head of Barysau branch of Belarusian Popular Front Party stated to RFE/RL that he had received a telephone call from officer of Barysau police Andrei Churkin and was invited for a talk concerning a murder in Maladechna.
06.08.2009 Fine for protest against resolution #991
Maskouski district court fined Young Front activist Aleh Valatkouski 1 050 000 rubles (about $ 372) for a demand to cancel the scandalous resolution. The defendant must also pay 500 000 rubles of compensation to utilities enterprise Partyzanskaya.

As said by the Young Front leader Zmitser Dashkevich, Aleh Valatouski was detained in Minsk in the night and is kept at the police station. Dashkevich does not rule out that the activist could be detained for distributing information about the national symbols of Belarus.

28.07.2009 Homel regional pro-dem forces launch campaign for return of benefits
Homel pro-democratic activists have launched a political campaign for the imposition of regional benefits for socially vulnerable citizens. According to the Coordinating Council of the United Pro-Democratic Forces, the evergrowing crisis tendencies have made certain groups of people, deprived of state support in the time of relative well-being, strive for survival. One of the local pro-dem leaders Vasil Paliakou expatiated upon the matter: ‘The authority of the local councils includes the possibility of imposing benefits for certain groups of people. That is why we are going to initiate collection of signatures aimed at forcing local council deputies to carry through the draft bill that will eventually let the most vulnerable groups of people – retired persons, students, children, disabled etc. – enjoy certain social benefits.
22.07.2009 Military officials keep harassing youth leader Franak Viachorka
According to Franak Viachorka, officers of the military unit where the activist is now serving have threatened him with criminal prosecution for at least six times over the past few weeks, including insubordination and malingering. He is also harassed for speaking Belarusian in the army. Franak’s father and famous politician Vintsuk Viachorka says his son has been subject to deliberate psychological terror by creating unbearable serving conditions. The politician thinks that by doing this the officers are executing an order.
