18.09.2009 New political soldier: Yauhen Skrabets taken to army forcibly

A “Young Front” activist from Brest will start service since September 21.

The young activist was given a call to come to the collecting point. On September 21 he is sent to the military unit near Mahilyou. Yauhen Skrabets will serve in railway troops, Radio Svaboda informs.

As we have informed, the military enlistment office started a “hunt” against Brest Young Front member, including his abduction by the unknown, and forcible putting him in a hospital.

Despite of the fact that the young man has a serious back problem, which does not allow him to go to the army, a repeat medical board called on demand of the military enlistment office, found him able-bodied.

16.09.2009 Two Young Belarus activists arrested in Minsk

Two Young Belarus activists Nasta Mashchava and Yahor Babrou have been detained in Minsk as they were trying to hang a banner ‘Freedom to Political Prisoners!’ across Partyzanski Avenue, Radio Liberty reports. The activists have been taken to local police department.

07.09.2009 Provocations and detentions at ‘Battle of Orsha’2009’ festival

Traditional festival Battle of Orsha was to take place near Orsha town at night of 5-6 September. The festival is traditionally held at Krapiuna Field, the historic place of the Battle of Orsha in 1514, where the army of the Great Duchy of Lithuania (predecessor of Belarus) defeated the Russian army. Police officers said a mine had been found on the field and didn’t allow people to come there.

26.08.2009 Vileika Court turns down complaint by local UCPB activist

Vileika District Court has turned down a complaint by a local UCPB activist Uladzimir Maliarchuk against the restrictions of meeting and picket locations. In her verdict, Judge Alena Artsimovich says that ‘decisions concerning locations of mass actions, as well as restricted locations, are within the jurisdiction of local executive and regulatory authorities.’ According to Mr.Maliarchuk, Vileika town authorities have assigned two locations for holding pickets and meetings, both situated on the town outskirts. In his complaint, he said that locations assignment itself ‘is an illegal restriction of citizens’ rights and freedoms.’ The activists demanded to lift any restrictions, since they ‘do not meet Constitutional and international standards.’

18.08.2009 BPF member sacked for participating in rally

According to the BPF’s press-service, Aliaksandr Kuzniatsou, head of the party’s Vitsebsk City office, is going to be fired after he took part in the 27 July opposition rally in the town of Haradok, Vitsebsk region. Another BPF activist Siarhei Zviozdachkin was sacked for participating in the rally a few days ago.
