18.06.2013 Amnesty International: Rygor Yuzepchuk could be executed within months
Amnesty International has recently learnt that Mahiliou regional court sentenced Rygor Yuzepchuk to death for the murder of a cellmate in prison number 4 in Mahiliou, his alleged accomplice was sentenced to 16 years. According to media reports the three prisoners had staked their lives on a game of dominos and the losing prisoner was strangled with a scarf on 5 July 2012.

Slonim residents Ivan Bedka and Viktar Marchyk addressed on May 30 Slonim district executive committee with an application for permission to stage a picket on June 27 in support of a local trauma surgeon, Ivan Sheha. They recently received a written response from the committee signed by the deputy chairman, Viktar Kot.

Some 10,000 copies of the Nash Dom (“Our House”) newspaper, a thousand branded envelopes and other printed matter of the civil campaign “Our House” were seized yesterday by employees of Minsk Savetski district police department in one of the capital’s private garages, www.svabodaby.net reports.

17.06.2013 Krychau district court rules against independent newspaper
The District Court of Krychau ruled today in the claim for “the protection of business reputation” by the Cherykau-based state-owned enterprise PMK (Mobile Mechanical Division) No. 280 against local independent newspaper Volny Horad (“Free Town”). The claim dealt with an article about salary payment delays at the enterprise. As a result, the court found the information regarding the enterprise as false, and ordered the newspaper to publish a retraction.

17.06.2013 Chairman of Vitsebsk court suggests prosecuting civil society activist over insult of judge
Vitsebsk civil society activist Piotr Ivanov asked the authorities to initiate criminal proceedings against Judge Valiantsina Kismiaroshkina, who, in his opinion, knowingly violated the law and unjustly punished him with a fine of 4 million rubles in the administrative case. However, it seems that it is the activist himself who may face criminal charges: such a proposal to the head of the Investigative Committee of Vitsebsk region, Uladzimir Shalukhina, was made by the Chairman of Pershamaiski District Court of Vitsebsk Andrushchanka.

The detention took place at about 3 p.m. on June 16, while Ales Silich, journalist of the Belsat independent TV channel, was making a story in Staubtsy district, where, according to some reports, a suspicious pig pestilence was recently noticed, the BAJ press-service reports.

14.06.2013 Death verdict delivered in Homel
4 June the Homel Regional Court issued a verdict in a criminal case against a 25-year resident of Homel, accused of killing a student of the Homel State University named after Skaryna Natallia Yemelyanchykava. The extremely cruel murder took place on 20 September 2012, the victim suffered 102 stab wounds. The girl died just few meters away from her house.
