22.02.2013 Vitsebsk activists fined for solidarity with political prisoners
Judge Ina Hrabouskaya of Vitsebsk Kastrychnitski District Court sentenced today two members of the Belarusian Christian Democracy, Stanislau Laurenau and Aliaksei Kishchuk, to a fine of 3 mln rubles each, finding them guilty of holding an unsanctioned rally. Meanwhile, the Judge did not pay attention to numerous violations of the rights of both activists.

21.02.2013 Sculptor Henik Loika detained for staging picket on International Mother Language Day
Henik Loika, sculptor and campaigner for the protection of the Belarusian language, was detained by the police this morning, after staging a picket outside a high school in Minsk, where his daughter is a student. The action was meant to attract public attention to the discrimination of Belarusian-speaking schoolchildren.

20.02.2013 Interior Ministry sees no discrimination in articles about Roma
Homel human rights defender Marya Klimovich received a reply to her appeal to the Interior Ministry on reported instances of discrimination of Roma people. In her appeal, the activist argued that the police newspaper “Na Strazhe” (“On Guard”) specifies the nationality of criminals, in particular Roma, which leads to discrimination based on ethnicity.

19.02.2013 Human rights defender Raisa Mikhailouskaya to receive With Visor Raised award
On February 22 the special jury will announce the winner of the Yury Zakharanka annual memorial award “With Visor Raised”. This year, for the first time ever the prize will be awarded to a female human rights defender Raisa Mikhailouskaya. The ceremony will be held during the evening of memory of former Interior Minister, missing politician Yury Zakharanka.
