07.09.2010 Statement of secretariat of Union of Belarusian Writers concerning detention of Mikhail Bashura
More than a month ago, on 6 August 2010, the member of the Union of Belarusian Writers, poet and editor Mikhail Bashura was forcedly detained. The investigation charged him with an ‘economical crime’ – the forgery of financial documents so that his wife could receive a bank loan. Ignoring the presumption of innocence and the possibility of a mistake, they charge Mikhail Bashura with the forgery of the certificate from the place of his work.
07.09.2010 Baranavichy: detention of Anatol Liabedzka and Yaraslau Ramanchuk
On 7 September, the leader of the United Civil Party Anatol Liabedzka and the presidential candidate of UCP Yaraslau Ramanchuk were detained at the central market of Baranavichy.
07.09.2010 ’Movement Forward’ is deprived of registration
On 6 September the research and educational establishment Movement Forward lodged a lawsuit with the Supreme Economical Court asking to reverse the verdict of the cassation instance of the Minsk City Economical Court of 25 August that had left standing the verdict of the court of 29 July 2010 #608-19/10.

The representatives of the international human rights organization Amnesty International Heather McGill and Aisha Jung paid a visit to Hrodna within the guidelines of the campaign against the punishment of criminals with death.

An activist of the For Freedom movement, Aliaksandr Protska, was detained near the Davydauski market in Homel for handing out booklets with the Popular Program of the presidential candidate Aliaksandr Milinkevich.
06.09.2010 Death of journalist Aleh Biabenin looks rather suspicious from all sides
The journalist Aleh Biabenin, one of the founders and leaders of the civil campaign Charter’97, was found hanged at 5.30 p.m. on 3 September in his summer cottage not far from Minsk.
06.09.2010 Detention of anarchists
At about 6 a.m. on 3 September, a group of anarchists was detained by the police in connection with the arson in the Russian Embassy in Belarus. One of the detainees was interrogated about the incident near the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Minsk, at the territory of which Molotov cocktails had been pelted, and was released at about 7 p.m. the same day. Mikalai Dziadok, Aliaksandr Frantskevich, Ihar Istazarau, Valeryia Khotsina, Anton Laptsionak, Siarhei Sliusarau and Aliaksei Zhynherouski are still under arrest in the detention center in Akrestin Street in Minsk and are being interrogated within about the arson.
03.09.2010 Confiscated belongings still not returned to Siarhei Trafimchyk
The activist of the For Freedom movement Siarhei Trafimchyk still cannot get back the things that were confiscated from his home during the search that had been conducted on 22 April by KGB within the framework of the investigation of the criminal case against Ales Zarembiuk who is charged with forgery. The KGB officers confiscated a printer, computer hard disk drives, several tens of CDs and DVDs with music and movies and many papers.

On 2 September, Professor Aliaksandr Astrouski, his wife Aksana and their children came to Lenin Square in Hrodna and unfurled banners with slogans in front of the windows of the city executive committee.

The Minsk City Executive Committee refused to authorize the action Pillow Fight which was planned for 8 September to mark the Battle of Orsha.
02.09.2010 Ministry of Justice afraid of solidarity fund
The trade union was warned that it can face troubles because of the establishment of the fund of solidarity. The decision about the establishment of the fund for giving financial support to participants of strikes was taken by the Council of the Trade Union on the initiative of the trade union organization of the Lios factory situated in the town of Baran (the Vitsebsk region).
02.09.2010 Ivan Kruk’s case considered at Hrodna Region Court
The Hrodna Region Court reversed the ruling of a lower court according to which Mr. Kruk was to be fined 1,050,000 rubles (about $348) for defamation of a state official. The case was returned for reconsideration.
