The lawsuit was considered by Judge Volha Apanovich, which granted Viktar Syrytsa’s motion to administer the trial in the Belarusian language.

August 4, 2013 will mark a sad anniversary. Ales Bialiatski has been in jail for two years. Two years behind bars for defending human rights in his home country, Belarus. Ales keeps his hopes up. And despite the forced daily work, he writes a lot. His colleagues published his writings on prison literature in Belarus. And he is currently working on a second book on the human rigts movement in his country. On August 4, we will be alongside Ales. The Belarusian government must know it!

A few weeks ago the head of the Slonim organization of the Belarusian Christian Democracy, Ivan Bedka, complained to the prosecutor of the Slonim district about the ban on a picket in support of physician Ivan Sheha. "For ten years, the Slonim District Executive Committee hasn't authorized any mass events of democratic forces in Slonim. Thereby officials routinely violate my constitutional right to peaceful assemblies," wrote Mr. Bedka.
