11.10.2007 Brest: Detentions for Information about European March

According to a youth activist Yuliya Pasheda, in the evening of 10 October the police detained the youth activists Inha Abramava and Yury Bakur who allegedly posted stickers with invitations to the European march that will take place on 14 October in Minsk.

11.10.2007 Vitsebsk: Entrepreneurs again Ask to Permit Meeting of Protest

The entrepreneurs of Vitsebsk again ask the authorities to authorize their meeting in the place that had been specified for such actions, 30-hoddzia VLKSM Park, 1 a.m. to 3 a.m. on 29 October. About 500 individual entrepreneurs and their employees intend to take part in the action.

On 10 October the judge of Chyhunachny district court of Homel Yaraslau Paremski sentenced the deputy chair of Homel oblast office of the United Civil Party Vasil Paliakou to 7 days of jail.

10.10.2007 Smarhon: Human Rights Activist Seeks Prosecutor’s Help

A public activist Ales Dzerhachou has phoned to Smarhon district prosecutor. He informed the prosecutor that the police ringed his house and demand from him to come with them to Smarhon district police department. They state that in the morning he walked his dog and insulted somebody.

10.10.2007 Three Belarusians Have Been Nominated Candidates for Nobel Prize 2007

On 12 October the Nobel Institute in Oslo will declare the holder of Nobel’s peace prize. This year there are 181 candidates, 135 of who are private individuals and 46 are organizations. Following its traditions, the Nobel committee tells nothing about the candidates and the organizations that nominated them.

The secretaries of the local units of this ?state NGO’ propose under-aged member of the organization to tear away the stickers and blue ribbons in honor of the European March appointed on 14 October. They promise to give to those who will bring the largest number of stickers and ribbons free entrance to the local disco for one month.

On 10 October in Hrodna the trials of the democratic activists who had been detained on 9 October finished.

10.10.2007 Niasvizh: Nasta Azarka Detained

A public activist Nasta Azarka was detained by the police on her way home and taken to Niasvizh district police department. There they drew on her a report under article 29.1 of the Administrative Code for posting stickers. The trial of the activist can take place at the end of October.

10.10.2007 Chair of Homel Oblast UCP Office Vasil Paliakou Detained

At about 7 p.m. on 9 October in Homel the police detained the chair of Homel oblast office of the United Civil Party Vasil Paliakou. The detention took place near his house. Paliakou was taken to Chyhunachny district police department of Homel and accused of ?dirty swearing’ (article 17.1 of the Administrative Code, standard charges to detained opposition activists).

10.10.2007 Mahiliou: Democratic Activists Sue Road Police

The hearings on a civil case brought on the suit of the public activists Yury Darashenka, Aliaksandr Karaliou and Aliaksei Paulouski have started at Leninski district court of Mahiliou. The activists accuse the policemen Aliaksandr Syrayezhkin, Tatsiana Martynava and Yauhen Zhylinski of insult of their honor, dignity and business reputation.
