12.10.2007 Mahiliou: Zmitser Salauiou Awaits Trial

In the night of 11-12 October in Mahiliou the police detained the deputy chair of Mahiliou city office of the Belarusian People’s Front Party Zmitser Salauiou and composed on him a report for ?petty hooliganism’. There they wrote that he had allegedly sworn dirtily and pissed in their eyes.

The Supreme Court of Belarus satisfied the suit of the Ministry of Justice on liquidation of the Women’s Party Nadzeya. The official reason is that the party had committed a number of law violations.

On 10 October the judge of Chyhunachny district court of Homel Yaraslau Paremski sentenced the deputy chair of Homel oblast office of the United Civil Party Vasil Paliakou to 7 days of jail.

10.10.2007 Chair of Homel Oblast UCP Office Vasil Paliakou Detained

At about 7 p.m. on 9 October in Homel the police detained the chair of Homel oblast office of the United Civil Party Vasil Paliakou. The detention took place near his house. Paliakou was taken to Chyhunachny district police department of Homel and accused of ?dirty swearing’ (article 17.1 of the Administrative Code, standard charges to detained opposition activists).

10.10.2007 Homel: Uladzimir Katsora Sentenced to 7 Days of Jail

On 9 October in Homel the police detained Uladzimir Katsora, assistant chairperson of Homel district organization of the United Civil Party. He was taken to Chyhunachny district police department of Homel. There a report for ?petty hooliganism’ (article 17.1 of the Criminal Code) was drawn on him. Then Katsora was taken To Chyhunachny district court. Judge Kozyrau sentenced him to 7 days of jail.

08.10.2007 Supreme Court Upholds Non-registration of ?Young Front’

The Supreme Court has considered the appeal of the Young Front council against the refusal of the Ministry of Justice to register the organization because of alleged non-compliance of its charter with the legislation in the paragraphs concerning mass actions and participation of the Belarusian citizens who live abroad.

On 5 October in Homel the KGB workers searched the UCP office in Paleskaya Street. According to the chair of Homel city UCP office Andrei Tolchyn, the KGB workers confiscated all computer system units and Xerox machines.

05.10.2007 Yury Istomin Claims Justice

On 5 October, after five days of arrest, the chair of Hrodna oblast office of the United Civil Party Yury Istomin was released from jail. He was sentenced to the prison term by the judge of Kastrychnitski district court of Hrodna Zinaida Bartsevich on charges of petty hooliganism (article 17.1 of the Administrative Code).

05.10.2007 Supreme Economic Court Turns down BHC Suit

The Supreme Economic Court rejected a complaint of the Belarusian Helsinki Committee against the Soviet of Ministers and the Ministry of Finances. The Soviet of Ministers’ spokesman didn’t appear on the processing of the complaint, RFE/RL reported.

On 3 October Niasvizh district court fined an activist of the democratic youth opposition Anastasiya Azarka 961 000 Belarusian rubles (about 447 US dollars) for alleged hooliganism.

02.10.2007 Riot Police Try to Burst into Anatol Liabedzka’s Apartment

On 30 September riot policemen in mufti tried to burst into Anatol Liabedzka’s apartment. However, the chair of the United Civil Party recognized one of them and did not open the door. On 29 September they also paid a visit to the house, but the politician was absent.
