The country’s authorities continue abusing legislation to sanction reporters working for local and foreign media.
On March 12, bloggers Aliaksandr Kabanau and Siarhei Piatrukhin were fined for covering a protest in Pinsk. According to the court, “anyone who has an account in social networks is a journalist”.
Campaigning for language equality is still an offense in Belarus.
Courts in Minsk marked International Mother Language Day, February 21, by imposing heavy fines on peaceful picketers.
