Exhibition of political prisoners' drawings to open in Warsaw on Human Rights Day
On December 10, the Human Rights Center Viasna invites you to the opening of the exhibition Feelings presenting a collection of artworks created by Belarusian political prisoners in places of imprisonment.
Every line on paper is not just an artistic statement, but also evidence of deep feelings and an attempt to preserve one's self in harsh circumstances. These works are a cry of the soul encoded in images, reflecting the thirst for freedom, love for others, and resistance to injustice. The exhibition raises important issues of human dignity, civic responsibility, and the power of creativity.
Key elements of the exhibition
Drawings in letters
Simple materials—paper, pencil, pen, felt-tip pen—have become means of communication and creativity for prisoners.
Messages to relatives
Personal stories, excerpts from letters expressing sadness, hope, and support for loved ones.
Symbolism
Images are often filled with metaphors, allegories, and hidden meanings that require thoughtful analysis.
Currently, political prisoners are prohibited from sending images from places of detention, and many works are specifically destroyed by prison employees.
Why is this important?
The exhibition aims to draw public attention to the fate of people imprisoned for their beliefs. It helps to see the prison not through a series of news headlines, but through personal stories and creative expression.
Dates and venue
The exhibition will be open from December 10 to 15, 2024 at the Museums of Free Belarus (ul. Foksal 11, Warszawa).
Grand opening: December 10 at 19:00, admission is free.
Facebook event
We invite everyone to visit the exhibition to get inspired to support those who continue their struggle even in inhumane conditions of detention.
Viasna is grateful to the Museum of Free Belarus for its cooperation and for providing a platform.
