We, participants of the 4th Belarusian Human Rights Forum, strongly protest against the pre-emptive detention of activists ahead of the protest “March of Angry Belarusians", which was held today, October 21, in Kastryčnickaja Square in Minsk.
We once again we remind that respect for the right to peaceful assembly, as guaranteed by the Constitution and the international obligations of the Republic of Belarus, are the government’s positive obligation.
In this context, we urge the Belarusian authorities to release the detained activists, to refrain from interfering in the peaceful rally and arresting the protesters, as well as subjecting them to other administrative penalties.
