Ihar Alinevich placed in penal cell for May Day
April 22, political prisoner Ihar Alinevich has been again placed in a penal cell. Human Rights Center “Viasna” learned it from his mother, Valiantsina Alinevich, whom he had phoned on May 3.
The mother didn't ask him for the reasons, because as a rule they are wire-drawn.
“May Day has always been an important holiday for Ihar, a day of solidarity with all workers. Apparently, the prison authorities decided to "congratulate" him on that holiday in such a way," says the mother of the political prisoner.
Moreover, in his earlier letters Ihar Alinevich wrote that he had been deprived of food the food parcel and short-term meeting had been appointed on June. Before that, he received a food parcel back in October. Moreover, he can buy foodstuffs only for a minimal sum in the prison shop, as he has the status of a “malignant offender”.
"I believe that the conditions of detention of my son in the colony can be equated to inhuman," says Valiantsina Alinevich.
Ihar Alinevich is still limited in the number of telephone calls: he can talk to his relatives only once in 2-3 months whereas other prisoners are allowed up to 3 telephone calls a month. It is unknown when he will be allowed to receive a food parcel and meet with his relatives next time.
Let us remind that the pressure on the political prisoners has increased recently. In particular, Mikalai Dziadok was sentenced to one more year in a penal colony. Artsiom Prakapenka was denied pardon and Mikalai Statkevich was declared a malignant violator of the colony regulations and transferred back to cell-type prison.
