Minsk Regional Court dismissed the cassation appeal of the human rights activist Leanid Markhotka.
Judicial board under Judge A. Liaukovich found no violations of the law which constitute grounds for granting the appeal. Mr. Markhotka, in his turn, believes that the court ruling is contrary to the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, ratified by Belarus, as well as to the spirit and essence of the Constitution of the Republic of Belarus. According to the human rights activist, he has depleted all effective domestic remedies and is going to continue his struggle for his rights at the UN Human Rights Committee.
