Mikalai Statkevich may face another criminal case
Over the last week the political prisoner was issued a number of penalties. The prison administration drew up eight acts about it. As reported by his wife, Maryna Adamovich, the political prisoner has been deprived of the short-term meeting with her, appointed on April, and a food parcel.
Moreover, Mr. Statkevich was placed into a solitary confinement, and on 3 April was put into the cell-type facility for two months.
According to the wife, Mr. Statkevich started having problems with the administration of the Shklou penal colony immediately after his transfer there from the Mahiliou prison. However, the pressurization increased after he had written a statement about refusing from work on self-care (cleaning the yard).
As explained by Maryna Adamovich, according to the law all prisoners must do such work in turn, not more than two hours a day. However, these norms didn't apply to Statkevich which he considered to be a mockery.
The politician's wife doesn't rule out that the another criminal case can be brought against him, as a result of which his prison term (ending in December 2016) can be extended or the regime of penalty can be toughened. She added that on his transfer to the Shklou colony Mr. Statkevich predicted that he would not stay there long.
Mikalai Statkevich - the only presidential candidate in the 2010 election who is still kept in custody. In May 2011 he was sentenced to six years of imprisonment on charges of organizing mass riot on the day of the presidential election. Initially serving his sentence in Shklou colony No.17, in January 2012 he was transferred to the Mahiliou prison No 4. for three years. After the end of this toughened regime of penalty he was returned to the Shklou colony, where two violation reports were drawn up against him during his two first days of stay there. Under the pretext of these violations he was also prohibited to have a short-term meeting with his relatives.
Mikalai Statkevich has been repeatedly proposed to write a clemensy petition in the name of Aliaksandr Lukashenka, but has blankly refused to do so.
