Brest prosecutor's office asked to check construction works on the territory of Brest fortress for compliance with legislation

The reason for the appeal, filed to the prosecutor's office by the head of the Brest regional branch of Belarusian Social Democratic Party (Hramada) Ihar Maslouski, are the construction works and putting sewage on the territory of the memorial complex "Brest Fortress".

These works are connected with plans to build a memorial patriotic youth center of the Belarusian National Youth Union, as well as a hotel, who is to be built by a Russian investor. According to the author of the appeal, BSDP has no specialists who could assess the construction works on the territory of the monument of history and culture protected by the state. However, having studied people's addresses and media publications and made their own observations one can make a conclusion about the reasonableness of the current construction works.

In particular, a great number of trees have been felled and the construction works are carried out without proper preliminary archaeological research (human remains can be clearly seen at the construction site) and the sewage is put directly into the river of Mukhavets.

"We ask the prosecutor's office to verify these facts and instruct the responsible officials to eliminate the discovered violations, as well as to instigate a criminal case and bring the guilty to justice, would it be necessary,” stated Mr. Maslouski.
