Salihorsk: densification and felling trees will continue
Activists of the campaign "Protect the Forest" declare the need to adjust the master plan of the development of Salihorsk.
Recent months haven't been very successful for the Salihorsk residents who struggle for their right to a healthy environment. Earlier statements of the city authorities about refusal from felling forest parks didn't withold them from destroying more green areas and erecting more buildings in the existing suburbs.
A multi-stored building is being constructed on the site of a recently destroyed forest park (see the photos) at the intersection of Maladziozhnaya and Zaslonau Streets. The yard near the shop “Ahaniok” in Leninski Kamsamol Street will soon be occupied by the commercial multi-stored house of the Salihorsk house-building plant. So far, the authorities haven't totally refused from cutting the green zone near the polyclinic in Liasnaya Street.
Activists of “Protect the Forest” are also gravely concerned with the present master plan of the development of Salhorsk, created in the years of a boom of the "unique Belarusian economic model". The plan provided the appearance of new suburbs and underground parking lots. However, the authorities had to refuse from these plans due to the economic crisis. As a result, the decisions concerning the construction of the new suburb, provided by the plan of the detailed planning, aren't implemented. This concerns recreation zones, playgrounds and objects of social infrastructure. So far there is no news whether the master plan will be brought in line with the actuals state of things, but local fighters for a healthy environment talk about the critical need for such an adjustment.
