Brest: city authorities ignore public appeals in defense of homeless animals
As reported by Brest resident Iryna Siniapkina, the local defenders of animal rights have filed an open letter to the head of the Brest City Executive Committee Aliaksandr Rahachuk and the prosecutor's office. However, the situation has deteriorated.
According to her, the essence of the appeals is to make the authorities solve the problem of homeless animals in a civilized way. Moreover, it is necessary to establish public control over the expenditure of the money, issued from the state budget for the needs of the animals kept in the temporary asylum of the enterprise “Kamunalnik”.
“I was outraged at finding that dogs and other pets are killed at this asylum, and this is done for our money”, says the activist. “ “Kamunalnik” workers treat homeless dogs and cats as garbage which needs to be removed from the streets. In our address we offered them to sterylize the animals and take other measures, but have received no answer.”
