It is possible that the two administrative sentences imposed on independent journalist Ales Zaleuski will be followed by a prosecutorial warning, according to the press service of the Belarusian Association of Journalists.

“I will only know the exact cause of the call during tomorrow’s interrogation where I am expected to appear at 1 o’clock. But I do not rule out that the purpose of the meeting is the prosecutor’s warning for working for foreign media without accreditation. I have information that the Prosecutor’s Office has for some time gathered information about my work, said Ales Zaleuski to BAJ’s press service.

It is noteworthy that last week the journalist was fined 6 mln rubles after Judge Andrei Likhach of the Slonim Court found Ales Zaleuski guilty of violating Art. 22.9 of the Code of Administrative Offences (illegal production and distribution of media products).

Earlier, the journalist faced similar charges in Karelichy in May this year. In general, Article 22.9 has already been used thirteen times against independent journalists in Belarus since the beginning of the year.

The Belarusian Association of Journalists has repeatedly criticized the incompetence of the charges against the reporters. However, the repressive practice has not changed.
