Invitation to presentation of report on results of monitoring of penitentiary institutions
December 10, the International Human Rights Day, Human Rights Center "Viasna" presents an analytical study "Report on the results of monitoring penitentiary institutions in the Republic of Belarus".
The report was prepared by human rights activists in cooperation with an expert, lawyer Pavel Sapelka.
The monitoring was conducted in 2013-2014 by analyzing the penal law and receiving objective information from public sources as well as through interviews with prisoners. At the same time, measures were taken in the framework of national legislation to improve the life standards for prisoners.
As a result of the monitoring, some measures were proposed in the field of legislation and law enforcement in order to improve the situation of prisoners.
The presentation will be attended by the report author Pavel Sapelka and a prisoner's wife Liudmila Kuchura, who has consequently struggled for her husband's rights with the assistance of the Human Rights Center “Viasna”. This case is described in details in the report. The presentation will be moderated by Deputy Chairman of the Human Rights Center "Viasna" Valiantsin Stefanovich.
