Brest activists ask prosecutor’s office to check work of local MPs
Activists of the civil initiative “Social Office” have written to the Prosecutor’s Office with a request to investigate the actions of the deputies of the Brest City Council, who have not responded to a petition on behalf of the citizens.
In mid-October, about four dozen members of the City Council received a letter, which requested to answer how they were going report on their activities. However, within the period provided by the law, the activists received only one response – from a MP in constituency 26, Mikalai Krasouski, who is also head of the Brest City Council.
“No other deputies responded, and in this case, for me it is obvious that what we witness is a violation of the Law “On Citizens’ Appeals”, so I think that people’s representatives should be held accountable,” says a representative of the civil initiative Yury Zhydovich. According to Mr. Zhydovich, we can assume that MPs simply do not have what to say during reporting, so they decided to demonstrate their contempt for the voters, who once took part in local elections.
