Leyla Yunus' advocate reports deterioration of her health
Elchin Gambarov, an advocate of human rights defender Leyla Yunus, the Director of the Institute for Peace and Democracy (IPD), kept at the Baku SIZO (pre-trial prison), has reported on the deterioration of the health state of his client. According to the advocate, on Tuesday, he has not been allowed to visit the human rights defender at the SIZO.
The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent has reported that on September 22, advocate Khalid Bagirov was not allowed to enter the Baku SIZO No. 1 and to visit Leyla Yunus. This fact raised the defenders' concern over the fate of their arrested client. Today, Elchin Gambarov, another advocate of Leyla Yunus, has also claimed that he was not allowed to visit his client.
According to Elchin Gambarov, he was not given any opportunity to talk to Leyla Yunus on the phone. The advocate has appealed to Azer Seidov, the head of the SIZO, and asked him for clarification. The advocate has also expressed his concern over the health and fate of Leyla Yunus.
"I declare with full responsibility, that the physical and moral state of my client has reached a critical point... Being exhausted by deceases, stresses and prison regime, Dr. Leyla Yunus, a 60-year-old human rights defender, shows indomitable will to resist, and she is physically exhausted," emphasizes Elchin Gambarov in his appeal.
The advocate has expressed the opinion that the further detention of Leyla Yunus in custody will inevitably lead to her death.
