Brest authorities ban pickets for simplification of local border traffic

Brest City Executive Committee banned the event despite the fact that the organizers wanted to hold it in the places that the authorities themselves had determined as suitable for such events.

According to a picket organizer Aliaksandr Khrapko, it was emphasized in the applications that the pickets would be held in the park of soldiers-internationalists and the stadium "Locomotive" in Brest, the officially determined places for mass events of such a kind.

However, as it is stated in the response of the executive committee, the picket at the stadium "Locomotive" was prohibited on the grounds that on the same day there would be held another scheduled event. Aliaksandr Khrapko notes that the application was filed in time, and it looks unlikely that anyone else could be planning an event in thee places before the receipt of the application of activists of the campaign “For Local Border Traffic” by the authorities.

What concerns the prohibition of a similar picket in the park of soldiers-internationalists, the applicants still haven't received any explanations from the executive committee. According to Mr. Khrapko, only one such event has been authorized in the whole Brest region – the picket in Pruzhany, held on August 28.
