Political prisoner Vaskovich cannot receive books
Three books, which his mother sent him to prison, were returned.
Charter97.org learnt it from the press service of the organising committee to create the Belarusian Christian democracy party.
“The political prisoner asked to send him three books to study English – two English self-study books and an adapted version of 1984 by George Orwell. The books were returned with a mark 'unallowed attachment',” Rushania Vaskovich said.
The political prisoner's relative and friends tried to send him books several times in the last few months, but all their attempts were in vain.
Yauhen Vaskovich interests include history of Belarus and the Great Duchy of Lithuania, journalism and political studies. He'd like to continue studying English, but the the prison authorities do not permit sending books to him.
Yauhen Vaskovich was tried together with Artsiom Prakapenka and Pavel Syramolatau. He was sentenced to 7 years in prison for an attempt to set the doors of the KGB office in Babruisk on fire. Syramolatau was released in September 2012 after he had applied to Lukashenka for a pardon. Yauhen Vaskovich and Artsiom Prakapanka refused to apply for clemency.
