Mahiliou: green zone and playground destroyed in favor of parking lot

Mahiliou citizens oppose the construction of the parking lot. The initiative group, headed by a local pensioner Tamara, has collected 200 signatures from local residents, which have been submitted to the Mahiliou authorities.

At present the people are preparing a complaint to the sanitation service concerning the fact that the developer violates the regulations concerning the recreation area near house No. 77 in Astrouski Street.

Instead of 30 meters between parking lot and residential area (the norm prescribed by the standards), just ten meters are left. Mahiliou officials see no violations there. In one of their answers they informed the tenants of the house, that the paid parking lot for 299 cars would be constructed by September 1, 2014.

The citizens disagree with this decision, as the new building is affects their interests - the developer has destroyed the green zone with trees and shrubs, and destroyed a children's playground.

Nothing has been built instead of the destroyed playground. Moreover, the citizens complain that the developer has dug the road, that's why it is impossible to walk through it with baby strollers, as no other temporary passages have been constructed.

Meanwhile, the citizens say they are not against the car park as long as it was built in accordance with the law.

It should be noted that there is also another paid parking lot nearby. According to the local residents, it is loaded only by 50-60% and they really doubt that the new parking lot will be profitable, because now citizens leave their cars in the yards.
