Hrodna Regional Court dismissed the appeal of Mikalai Ulasevich
March 3, Hrodna Regional Court turned down the appeal of a civil society activist from Varniany, Mikalai Ulasevich, against the refusal of the Hrodna regional election commission to register him as a candidate for the regional council.
It's quite interesting that the trial was appointed at 6.30 p.m. Judge Viachaslau Mikhnevich, having heard the witnesses and Ulasevich's arguments, sided with the election commission and turned the appeal down.
The formal reason for the registration denial is the statement of the regional election commission that the February 4 meeting of the Hrodna regional organization of the United Civil Party for nomination of Ulasevich's candidacy wasn't really held.
Mr. Ulasevich regards it as clear discrimination for political reasons.
On March 6 the court will consider the appeal of the Astravets activist Ivan Kruk against the refusal of the electoon commission to register him as a candiate to the Astravets District Council.
