MP says requirement to report to electorate is absurd
Chairman of the Brest City Council Henadz Masko considers absurd the requirement that members of the council report to the people acting on behalf of the civil initiative "Social Office".
Such a response was received by an activist of the "Social Office" in Brest Yury Zhydovich to his third appeal to the head of the local representative of the authority, as previously members of Brest City Council ignored the request on behalf of the civil initiative to report on their activities.
The members of the council were asked to tell where and when they held meetings with voters and how they informed citizens about the time and place of such meetings. Mr. Zhydovich reminds that the legislation requires the members of the councils of answer public appeals within 15-day term.
In response, signed by the chairman of Brest City Council it is stated that members of the councils are responsible before citizens and can report only to them. “However, the legal acts do not contain such absurd provisions that an MP must report to the civil initiative "Social Office", wrote the official.
Activist of "Social Office" Yury Zhydovich is convinced that Henadz Masko contradicts himself in this answer. “Regardless of our participation in public life, we are all citizens of the Republic of Belarus and have the right to receive answers to the questions that interest us," says the activist.
