Ales Makayeu to be tried for commemoration of Slutsk uprising
On 4 December the police drew up a violation report on the entrepreneur and social activist Ales Makayeu, charging them with organizing an unsanctioned rally on 24 November during a visit to the village of Hrozava in the Slutsk district. The trial of Ales Makayeu will be held at the Maskouski District Court of Minsk. The date hasn't been scheduled so far.
"It was during a visit to the places of Slutsk uprising. In the village of Hrozava there is a monument to the Slutsk residents who tok part in the struggle against the Red Army in 1920. We laid flowers to the cross and sang "God Almighty". After that I was approached by local police and told to give an explanation. They said I had a permission to rally in Slutsk, not in Hrozava. They took me and activist Illia Dabratvor for a talk, and released us thirty minutes after, having taking written explanations. Then they drew up a violation report on the basis of these explanations, as far as I was the organizer of the rally in Slutsk. I don't think we have done something illegal, as we just laid flowers and paid tribute to the fighters for independence of the Fatherland ," Said Mr. Makayeu in an interview with Radio “Liberty”.
A year ago Ales Makayeu was also found guilty of carrying out unauthorized activities during visits to places of Slutsk uprising. Then the co-chairman of the movement "Together" Ales Makaeu was fined 5 million rubles. “I have been sentenced to many fines already,” says Mr. Makayeu. “Nevermind, we are doing a worthy things, honoring the memory of our heroes," says Ales Makayeu.
