Yaromenak and Parfiankou arrested for five days
Uladzimir Yaromenak and Vasil Parfiankou have been serving administrative detention since September 16, after Judge Yury Harbatouski of Minsk’s Pershamaiski District Court sentenced the activists to for five days of arrest on charges of disobeying the terms of preventive supervision (Article 24.12 of the Administrative Code).
Human rights defender stress that both former political prisoners are currently under prosecution for the same acts.
"Despite the criminal cases for violation of the preventive supervision, the activists continue to be punished for the same actions in administrative proceedings. This time, both receive perfectly equal five days in jail, although previous trials ended up with fines. There are doubts about the adequacy of the impact of such punishment on the behavior of the young people. All this seems to be more a petty revenge on the part of government,” says a lawyer of the HRC “Viasna” Nasta Loika.
