Homel human rights defender holds action of solidarity with Ales Bialiatski (photos)
On 4
August Homel human
rights activist Anatol Paplauny held an action of solidarity with
Ales Bialiatski. He distributed several hundred of postcards with
information about the well-known human rights activist, political
prisoner who had been arrested by the Belarusian authorities on 4
August 2011. The postcards were distributed in the “Ukrainski”
market and at bus stops in the city center, starting from Homel State
University (where Ales Bialiatski studied and began to engage in
social activities).
Passers-by paid interest to the cards, ask
questions, as many people still not know that the Belarusian human
rights activist is kept in prison for his activities. There were also
those who refused to pick up the postcards on hearing the words
"political prisoner".
"This day, 4 August, is a
landmark for us, human rights defenders. On this day, our leader was
thrown in jail for his human rights activities. But Ales Bialiatski
doesn't surrender even there: he continues to work, preparing a book,
writes a lot. I am sure that God and truth are on his side, and we'll
wait for him at liberty.”
