Minsk City Court heard today appeals lodged by Radio Racyja journalist Aliaksandr Yarashevich and blogger Dzmitry Halko to contest their recent arrests. As a result, the journalist’s appeal was dismissed.
“I had no hopes to restore justice in Minsk City Court, but to challenge the illegal sentence, of course, is our duty. We will seek as much the publicity of all violations as possible,” says Aliaksandr Yarashevich as quoted by the BAJ press service.
Aliaksandr Yarashevich and Dzmitry Halko were detained on 6 May outside the detention center in Akrestsin Street in Minsk. They were charged with disorderly conduct and resisting arrest and were eventually sentenced to 12 and 10 days in jail, respectively.
