Syarhey Kavalenka gets the second warning for the week
Vitsebsk
activist of the Conservative-Christian Party "Belarusian Popular
Front" Siarhei Kavalenka was summonsed to Pershamaiski District
Inspection in Vitsebsk and issued with the second warning for the
week.
"This warning concerns the same case on 25 March,
when I was charged with crossing the road in the wrong place. At
present they also state that I insulted the police with obscene
language. The counsel explained that these two warnings are enough to
imprison me again. I will try to appeal them, but the problem is that
the police refuse to issue me with copies of these papers. This is a
continuation of the total lawlessness which started in 2010, when I
was transferred from the personal restraint term which I served at
home to real prison after receiving two warnings," stated Mr.
Kavalenka to RFE/RL.
Former political prisoner Siarhei
Kavalenka was sentenced to 25 months of imprisonment for hanging a
white-red-white flag on the New Year Tree in Vitsebsk. During the
investigation and the trial he kept long hunger-strikes. He was
pardoned in September 2012, after serving almost a year in prison,
and was put on the prophylactic register of the police.
