Mahiliou police prevent "Young Christian Democrats" from holding street action
The activists intended to hand out
copies of the Constitution of the Republic of Belarus with a posted
photo of Aliaksandr Lukashenka, swearing on the Constitution under a
white-red-white flag in 1994.
"In the morning we wanted
to start an action dated to an anniversary of the adoption of the
Constitution of the Republic of Belarus. We intended to hand out the
Constitution near the Russian-Belarusian University. However, we were
approached by some police officers who asked what we were doing there
and whether we weren't going to violate the public order," said
one of the YCD activists.
The policemen kept watching the
guys for half an hour and went away as soon as the latter ones
refused from holding their action. It's quite interesting that one of
the police officers was lieutenant-colonel Mazhankou, the head of the
public security department of Mahiliou police.
By the way, on
14 March the activists managed to hand out the Constitution near
Mahiliou Diagnostic Center.
