Klimavichy District Executive Committee refuses to authorize Freedom Day picket
Klimavichy activists of
"Tell the Truth" received an answer from Klimavichy DEC to
their application for holding a picket at the city market, dated to
the Freedom Day, 25 March.
The authorities refused to
authorize the event writing that "your application couldn't be
considered as far as it doesn't correspond to Article 5 of the Law
"On Mass Events" of 30 December 1997".
Local
activists of "Tell the Truth" Aliaksandr Balobin sayshe
isn't surprized with such an answer.
"We intended to
hold the picket on 23 March on the territory of the city market. The
application for the action was filed on 4 March by three activists of
"Tell the Truth". Frankly speaking, we didn't expect
anything else. But we aren't going to surrender. Yesterday we filed a
new application, after consulting human rights defenders. If the
authorities don't grant this application either, we will seek ways to
mark Freedom Day in Klimavichy in some other way. We already have
some ideas about it," commented the activist.
