175th anniversary of Kastus Kalinouski's birthday celebrated in Baranavichy
The festive event was
held on 3 February by the Baranavichy council of the Belarusian
Language Society and the Polish House. The candidates of historical
sciences Nina Styzhynskaya and Andrei Kishtymau told about the
personality of Kanstantsin Kalinouski and the peculiarities of the
uprising of 1863 in Belarus. The first head of the Polish house in
Baranavichy, Alzhbeta Dalenha Uzhosek spoke about her vision of
Kalinouski's role in the development of the Belarusian language and
statehood. Anzhela Kambalava dedicated her speech to the image of
Kastus Kalinouski in cinema, literature and art. The poet Ales Bely
wrote his poems, dedicated to Kalinouski's insurgents.
A
historical quiz, dedicated to the uprising of 1863, was held among
the audience by the head of the Baranavichy council of the Belarusian
Language Society Viktar Syrytsa. On one hand, it showed the people's
interest to Kalinouski, on the other – how much yet remains to be
discovered about his life and activities.
Minsk folk signers
Raman Yarash, Viktar Siamashka and Yiliiana Litvinava sang songs. At
the end of the event, Halina Yarashevich and Tatsiana Malashchanka
sang the song "Milavidy Lilac", dedicated to the
insurgents.
All in all, about 80 people were present at the
event.
