The UCP’s leader Anatol Liabedzka was fined to participating in an unauthorized picketing.

The politicians received a respective notification in the morning on 22 January, Belarusian Partisan reports.

The judge of Minsk Savetski district’s court Dzmitry Pauliuchenka found out on 15 January that Anatol Liabedzka “took part in a street picketing non-authorized by the Minsk City Executive Committee, handed out A4 format leaflets to passersby, the title of the leaflet said “The principled position of the United Civic Party and its adherents on the privatization of state property. They stole elections from us in order to sell the country”, thus violating the article 10 of the law of the Republic of Belarus N0 114 as of 30.12.1997 “About mass events in the Republic of Belarus”.

“First of all judge Pauliuchenka did not find out anything, but simply copied the protocol made up in the police department. Second of all, they simply forgot to invite me to the court for the proceedings. Although it is said in the findings of the court that I did not show up for the proceedings, but it is an outright lie. I would not have refused myself the pleasure to participate in a process with such an absurd accusation. Third of all, and it is a positive conclusion, the authorities strongly do not want to publicize the topic of privatization and are ready to do anything in order to prevent our communication with people”, - Anatol Liabedzka commented on the court’s decision.
