Representatives of the
administration of the Mahiliou prison again persuaded Mikalai
Statkevich to write a pardon petition to Lukashenka, breaking their
6-month silence. As said by Statkevich's wife Maryna Adamovich, the
form of the proposal was quite cynical. They said: "Stop playing
a gangster, get out and go to see".
Statkevich is the
last candidate for president who is still kept behind bars. Bear in
mind that at the 15 January press-conference Aliaksandr Lukashenka
mentioned his rival at the election of 2010. He especially strongly
criticized Statkevich for his electoral speeches on TV.
