Trees still cut down in Salihorsk forest park
The defenders of the
Salihorsk forest park have received another defeat in the struggle
for a healthy environment.
The local builders cut down the
remaining part of the Salihorsk forest park in the green triangle
between Zaslonau and Kazlou Streets on permission of the authorities.
Bear in mind that
in the end of 2012 about two hectares of first-rate forest was felled
in Liasnaya Street, in the area of the water protection zone. The New
Year began with the felling of trees in the remaining part of the
forest park.
"The authorities have a long-standing habit
to make ugly things on holidays. They either devalue the ruble, or
cut down trees while people are celebrating Christmas or the New
Year," says the activist of the "Let's protect the forest"
campaign Uladzimir Shyla. We managed to defend these trees, as well
as the forest park in Liasnaya Street, last year, but the authorities
have taken the decision to continue the elimination of the
forest.
The activist thinks that the action of wider social
circles is vital for a successful protection of the forest, whereas
very few activists are dealing with this problem now.
