"Spy" Haidukou's friend interrogated at KGB again
Since the end of December 2012, an activist of the organizing
committee of the Belarusian Christian Democracy Party Illia Bahdanau
has been the second suspect in the case of "high treason",
initially brought only against the Navapolatski civil activist Andrei
Haidukou.
The investigator Aleh Barysevich decided that there
were some discrepancies in thetestimonies of the activists and
decided to stage a confrontation.
Most probably, it will take
place at the Minsk pre-trial prison on 15 January, stated Illia
BAhdanau after another interrogation at the Vitsebsk KGB Bureau. He
did not reveal any other details, as he gave a written undertaking
not to disclose any information concerning the investigation. The
interrogation took place in presence of Bahdanau's counsel and lasted
for three hours.
After the interrogation, Mr. Bahdanau was let
go – the restraint was not changed. Nevertheless, Andrie Haidukou,
detained on 8 November in Vitsebsk while "making a hiding
place", is still kept in the pre-trial prison of the KGB. He has
been kept in custody for two months already: at first he was put in
the pre-trial prison of the KGB in Minsk, then – transferred to the
pre-trial prison in Vitsebsk, and then, at the end of the year –
returned back to Minsk.
Haidukou's friends and relatives are
worried about his fate, as in his last letters home he wrote about
"huge falsifications", state that the charges of espionage
are absurd and connect the pressurization on the part of the KGB with
his civil activities. Earlier Mr. Haidukou had been detained during
silent protests, had received threats from "people in mufti"
for his views. Several days prior to the detention he was preparing
documents for registration of the NGO "Union of Young
Intellectuals".
