Spontaneous rally at "Carpets of Brest"
The rally was held by workers of the
enterprise in presence of the new head of the "Bellehpram"
("Belarusian Light Industry") concern Mikhail Suchkou, who
came to Brest to study the state of affairs at one of the most
problematic enterprises of the concern.
Several dozens of
women gathered at the checkpoint of the open stock society "Dyvany
Bresta" ("Carpets of Brest") to express dissent with
their wages and the overall situation at the enterprises. At present,
the labor week lasts for two-three days in many workshops and the
workers are sometimes proposed to get forced vacations. What concerns
the wages, they are about 300,000-500,000 rubles (about $34-57). To
prove it, the workers showed the official the wage receipts.
The
rally participants expressed impeachment to the administration of
"Carpets of Brest", as they see no changes for the better:
the main industry has been idle for the last nine months. At the same
time, the administration holds repairs of its building and no
engineers and technical workers have been dismissed.
