Political prisoner Ihar Alinevich phoned home several hours before the New Year

Ihar Alinevich managed to phone home and congratulate his relatives
on the New Year literally several hours before the advent of
2013.
"My son was allowed to make a telephone call in the
afternoon on the 31 December. He said that he was alright, that
everything was like it used to be. He reads much. He said they would
drink tea to mark the New Year. Earlier he wrote that the most
memorable was the New Year in the pre-trial prison of the KGB. All
cell-mates gathered at the table there and even sang songs. But it
was in the KGB prison, and in the penal colony there is another
regime."
Ihar Alinevich is serving a prison term in the
Navapolatsk colony. As we have reported, the prisoners could have
some troubles with warm clothes: they were not allowed to put on
sweaters and other warm things under the prison uniform, while the
uniform was too thin to save them from the cold. Uladzimir Alinevich
says that at present his son "is dressed normally, there were no
complaints from him".
Ihar Alinevich was sentenced to 8
years of imprisonment for assaults on official buildings, which he
denies.
