The civil activist Ryhor Hryk collected about 40 books by
Belarusian and foreign writers. On 3 December he tried to pass them
to the pre-trial prison #6 in Baranavichy, where the political
prisoner Vasil Parfiankou is kept.
The deputy head of the
prison, major Aliaksandr Pupko, refused to call the librarian for
checking and accepting the books, and stated that “our institution
does not need books”.
“I know that the political prisoner
Vasil Parfiankou is serving another term in the Baranavichy prison.
Artsiom Babei, Viachaslau Sukharebski and other have repeatedly
written letters to him, but have received no answers. I hoped that at
least books would be accepted for him and other prisoners,”
commented Mr. Hryk.
