On
26 November bailiffs confiscated the assets and sealed the premises
of the Human Rights Center “Viasna” where legal aid to repressed
citizens had been conducted, trainings, meeting, seminars and press
conference on human rights violations had been conducted for the 12
last years.
On 24 November there has turned a year since the
announcement of the verdict to the head of the Human Rigths Center
“Viasna” Ales Biliatski, who was sentenced to 4.5 years of
imprisonment with confiscation of assets on charges of a gross tax
evasion, by which receiving finances for activities of the
organization headed by him was meant. The international community
considers this sentence as lynching of the famous human rights
defender and an attempt to stop the activities of the Human Rights
Center “Viasna”.
