Sweden: Östgruppen prepares another bear landing party to Belarus
On Saturday, 10 November, the Swedish
human rights organization Östgruppen will hold the action “Plush landing force-2”. Teddy bears with demands of
respect to human rights will depart to Belarus
again: this time – in parcels, which will be sent to the Belarusian officials
and politicians who are banned entry to the EU because of their involvement in
human rights abuses in Belarus.
“In spring about 800 Swedish teddy bears flew to Belarus. Lukashenka was mad and
stated they had crossed the border illegally. The bears were detained and
guarded to the police stations. That's why this time we are going to send them
legally, in parcels, to Lukashenka and his friends, but the demands of respect
human rights, especially freedom of assemblies and associations will remain,”
commented the head of Östgruppen Martin Uggla. “The summer action caused much
critique in Sweden, but was
met positively by many activists in Belarus. By means of our action we
want to express our solidarity with the Belarusians who work for the
democratization of their country.
The action will start at 12 a.m.
on 10 November in the center of Stockholm.
Its participants will take teddy bears with them, and the organizers will pass
them the addresses of the potential receivers from Belarus.
